AIR Niugini yesterday suspended all flights to centres where military units are based.
In a press statement, the airline’s corporate affairs department said all flights to Wewak (East Sepik) had been indefinitely suspended while flights to Lae (Morobe), Vanimo (West Sepik) and Kiunga(Western) had been suspended for the day.
Air Niugini attributed the suspension to security uncertainties and in line with instructions from the acting minister of State Enterprises, Belden Namah. The suspension of flights took effect immediately.
“Customers are advised to call in at your nearest Air Niugini centre or its agents to receive an update on making alternative travel arrangements or when travel bookings are open to revalidate tickets free of charge,” Air Niugini said.
Airlines PNG said it had been issued the same instructions to immediately suspend all flights to all the military ports indefinitely.
Travel Air Ltd, which operates the aircraft dubbed Mangi Lo Peles, could not be reached for comment.
