QUEEN Elizabeth II has sent a message of sympathy to Papua New Guinea following the sinking of an overloaded ferry last Thursday, Buckingham Palace said last Friday.
The Queen, who, as head of the Commonwealth, is Papua New Guinea’s head of state, sent the message to Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio at Government House.
More than 100 missing passengers were feared to have been trapped inside the mv Rabaul Queen when it sank last Thursday.
Nearly 250 survivors had been plucked to safety in a joint
rescue operation conducted by PNG and Australia, but scores more were unaccounted for. – AFP
