THE Queensland Government has agreed to provide resources and technical assistance to support the PNG government.

Premier Campbell Newman said Queensland and PNG shared two similar goals.

“Both our governments want to get job and wealth for our country and implement programmes for our public sector,” Campbell said.

He said both countries would have an exchange programme for 100 to 150 police officers between Queensland and PNG.

“We are offering our people a new experience in front line policing and grow capacity. We are also offering an opportunity for those who come into Queensland to develop their professional skills,” he said.

He said they would provide support for the Daru Health Centre and agriculture training through TAFE.

He said they were goals which both governments were determined to achieve.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said he was delighted to see a range of issues agreed on between Queensland and PNG.

“This provides us with an opportunity to draw on expertise and experience of your government and your departments and your agencies in some of enormous challenges that we face in this country and in implementing programmes of the public sector,” he said.
