WHILE many Christians attended church services to mark the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, many major shops were opened for business in Lae.

The streets were otherwise quiet with most people either travelling out of town for the long weekend, attending church services or stayed indoors.

For the Angau Memorial Hospital, it was business as usual with a number of Easter babies delivered and the sick seeking treatment.

About 100 Catholics carried a replica of the cross for the 6km Stations of the Cross walk from Holy Spirit Catholic church at Boundary Road to St Mary’s cathedral in Top Town.

Lutherans and United church members also attended church service to commemorate the death of Christ.
