The National, Wednesday 10th April, 2013

THIS year’s Digicel Cup is on course for a slow start.

The country’s top tier rugby league competition has experienced similar issues in previous years and the 2013 season looks to be no different.

Compeition organisers have yet to release the season draw while one franchise has a self-imposed media ban and two others have named the same high profile Kumul forward on their rosters.

Digicel and PNG National Rugby League have indicated that the draw will be released at the official launch tomorrow evening,   three days before the first match.

Gulf Isapeas management have barred the media from reporting on the team’s preparations in response to what they claim was negative publicity earlier in the year with regards to the naming of a new coach.

The National was turned away at an Isapeas training session at Taurama Barracks yesterday and have been refused access to the team and players.

Kumul forward David Loko is at the centre of a selection conundrum with the Hela Wigmen and Enga Mioks both claiming his signature in recent weeks.
Both sides have insisted the backrower will play for them this year.
The Muruks are also in a state of confusion with the squad split between Mendi and Lae.
Organisers have yet to release credible information on all franchises thus far ensuring that the competition will take some time to build momentum begining with the launch tomorrow in Port Moresby.
