LEVY and registration fees of athletes from Rabaul district which are part of Team East New Britain to the 5th PNG Grassroots games next month will be met by the district.
Chairman of the Rabaul joint district planning and budget priorities committee Dr Allan Marat said on Tuesday, they approved K50,000, with K30,000 for Team ENB and K20,000 to go towards levy fees for athletes from the district.
The games will be held from Nov 19-30 at various locations within the four districts and Team ENB would be camping at Vunabosco Technical secondary school.
The team contingent comprises 600 athletes and officials who would be participating in 22 sports including disabled sports.
Marat said all LLG presidents in the district through the LLG community development initiative had already pledged K1,000 to Team ENB.
He said the main purpose of the games were for talent identification and also provinces to showcase their traditions and cultures.
He said such programmes would help keep youths away from getting involved in law and order problems within the communities.
Chef de Mission for Team ENB Wilson Matava said again the funding was timely in order to fully prepare the team to participate.
“Given the funding we are getting, there is a very big sign of confidence in the management of Team ENB that we will prepare the athletes well and in time for the games,” Matava said yesterday.
