THE race for the top spots in the Mt Golpu Lae Corporate Eight-ball Competition is wide open as bottom teams are now competing strongly with a couple of games remaining before the finals.
The upset of the weekends saw leaders Kuima Security losing three games with a 3-4 defeat by cellar dwellers Dekenai before falling again to Guard Dog Special Force on Saturday.
The battle of the security companies was the game to watch and Guard Dog, under the helm of team manager Ben Johnson, did not falter as they upset Kuima 6-1 to complete round three.
After the morale-boosting win, Guard Dog’s Johnson, George Siki, Natasha Siki, Terryanne Manape, Jordan Tau, Philemona Akuna, John Akuna, Samuel Abel Tau, Kamen Dirua and Fidelis Hela repeated the dose against their opponents to win 4-3 in round four.
“I think we now have a better team and I’m pretty confident in our players,” Johnson told The National.
“We’re hoping to make the finals.
“It’s good to see the bottom teams climbing the ladder and putting in a strong performances against the top sides.
“At the start of the competition, my players were not playing well, so we made a few changes. But I’m now happy because all my players are good and we are playing well.”
