RAMU NiCo Management Ltd on Monday donated more than K3,000 worth of gear to the Basamuk Sports Association in Raicoast, Madang.
The donation included 24 sets of uniforms, 17 trophies and six balls — all part of Ramu NiCo’s goals in engaging youths to realise their potential through sports.
Jack Jia, the executive deputy general manager of Ramu NiCo’s Basamuk Refinery, was pleased with the donation as that it was a way of giving back to the majority of youths who work for the company.
“We employ most of the youths to work at our refinery so we are obliged to provide sports gear and items so that you can participate in soccer, which balances out your body and mind to be healthy and strong,” he said.
“As a responsible investor, we would like to provide more opportunities and supports so that you are happy and we are happy.”
Basamuk Sports Association chairman Emil Yambel thanked Ramu NiCo for their assistance in addressing social issues in the community.
“The company is providing us job opportunities at the refinery and now supporting our sporting association,” Yambel said.
“Let’s do away with our bad attitudes and stay focused on healthy living through sports to be good citizens in our society.”
More than 20 teams will participate in a tournament in the lead-up to the country’s Independence celebration on Sept 16.
