Ramu NiCo looking forward to repeating last year’s record high production

THE Ramu Nickel/Cobalt project in Madang achieved a record high production last year, according to the operator, Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd.
The company is looking forward to a similar positive production this year. With an improved management standard and production stabilisation along with careful safety management and operational compliances, Ramu NiCo produced 35,100 tonnes of nickel last year.
MCC president Gao Yongxue said this was an average of 107.7 per cent and yearly plan completion rate of 106.4 per cent – a 57 per cent year-on-year increase.
“Ramu NiCo has now become an industrial benchmark for reaching production capacity and reducing production cost,” Yongxue said.
The company’s annual conference was held on Tuesday.
Yongxue said all economical and technical standards had been met, with nickel recovery rate at more than 90 per cent on average – 2.3 per cent higher than the previous year.
The cobalt recovery rate was more than 80 per cent – two per cent higher than last year, contributing to an increase of 903.9 tonnes of nickel and 75.3 tonnes of cobalt.
