Ramu NiCo’s (MCC) Kurumbukari mine has seen transformation in the area with the construction of a new haus win (rest house) as part of its rehabilitation and development.
Mine development section superintendent Sione Teatutai said his section had been tasked by KBK mine management to do landscaping and beautification of the area as part of the mine’s rehabilitation exercise.
Teatutai said workers from mine development section were involved in such activities during time when situation did not allow them to go out to the field to work, such as rainy days when it was wet and muddy.
The construction of the haus win began in November under the instruction of mining department deputy general manager Wei Zhe.
“The haus win is a good place to go sit down and rest and have a good piece of mind after a hard day’s work,” Teatutai said.
“We’d like also to give a good impression to visitors to the KBK mine.”
Teatutai said materials to construct the haus win were donated by Babylon Estates Ltd, which currently purchased hard wood timber from locals from KBK area and proceeds the timber at a site near Ainangri.
He approached the general manager of Babylon Estates Ltd, Steven Seeto, who generously agreed to provide hard wood timber for free.
Seeto also allocated three of his carpenters to help in constructing the building. Mine development workers have brought in lawn grass to plant near the haus win and also made flower beds where beautiful native shrubs and flowers are being cultivated.
The haus win was constructed in the middle section of the mine operations and mine development sections, adding spectacular touch to the environment. There are also beautiful orchids and wild flowering plants being planted.
