FINDING sponsorship is difficult nowadays but for Poasum, it was a blessing to have Ramu Sugar assisting the club with two sets of uniforms for the 2021 Lae Corporate Touch season. The club has three teams — open men, open mix and boys — that will compete under strict Covid-19 protocols in the new season. Club coordinator Phison Artang said giving sporting opportunities to young people was one way of helping them refrain from trouble. “What I see in young people is different from the community’s perception of them,” she said. “They have something important.“Some of them can go out and spend all their time on the competition. “They just come to play and go back when the competition is over. “I see that there are a lot of potential sportsmen and women in communities and something must be done about it.” Artang said she wrote letters to potential sponsors, but she was unable to receive a favourable response. “So I had to talk to my husband to take the sponsorship letter to the company he works and give it a try,” she said.  “Thankfully, Ramu Sugar responded favourably and came on board to sponsor the club with two sets of uniforms. “Ramu Sugar’s community support won’t be in vain as it will boost the morale of our young people and their parents. “We didn’t expect to receive two sets of uniforms. But on behalf of the club, we thank Ramu Sugar for the support which will help develop young touch players.” Marketing coordinator Anthony Kiki said Ramu Sugar was a Papua New Guinea company and they were happy to assist communities.  “The uniforms we have donated will help you to play and refrain from trouble,” he told the club. “The uniforms will help keep you busy with sports and shape you into good citizens.”
