Rangers take down Sisters to seal third premiership

MAINTAIN Rangers notched their third premiership after they defeated Panda Sisters 24-11 in the Vanama Justin Tkatchenko Christmas Sports Cup netball final on Saturday.
It was a double for the Rangers after their touch team beat the Sharks 12-6 in the final.
Rangers goal shooter Hesi Tom bagged 19 points from 25 attempts, helping her side to maintain their unbeaten record throughout the tournament.
The Rangers walked away with the premiership and K1000 while the Sisters settle for K700.
Kila Thomas played well, coordinating the attack with Brigette Sevi and Nancy Thomas to help the Rangers retain their title.
“After winning the Independence netball challenge, we were confident about securing another title with the young players we have,” Thomas said.
“I congratulate all the players for their efforts in helping win the title.
“I’d like to thank our supporters and officials for a successful tournament.”
Tournament coordinator Fred Sarea said Moresby South MP Tkatchenko had allocated K13,000 and K20,000 respectively for the Christmas and Independence challenges.
“We would like to thank our MP for supporting us,” Sarea said.
“We are all proud that this has helped keep our youths out of trouble during the festive period.
“These games — touch (men’s), netball (women’s) and volleyball (men’s and women’s — saw the completion their finals in style.
“All the winners and runners-up received K1000 and K700 respectively. Each of the 54 teams that competed in the tournament got K200 as a consolation.”
