Rebuilding, upgrading infrastructure priority for Defence Force

THE rebuilding and upgrading of key Defence Force infrastructure remains a priority, acting secretary for Defence Trevor Meauri says.
He said this included soldiers’ living quarters and mess facilities in all units and barracks.
Meauri said the rehabilitation of deteriorated infrastructure was among his priorities this year.
It was after he took office in 2017 that the defence council made commitments for several key infrastructure developments.
General facelifts and maintenance started last year.
Meauri said it would be carried on into this year, guided by internal governance approach and control mechanisms to carefully manage contracts and output.
This is to systematically minimise the long-standing abuse of process that had been within the system over the years.
Meauri said accountability and cost-consciousness formed the backdrop to identifying projects and allocating funding.
