SPECIAL Parliamentary Committee on General Election 2022 chairman Allan Bird says they will make recommendations to Parliament to buy a new computer system to update and improve the electoral roll.
Bird made the remarks after election manager for Central Peter Malaifeope said an Information Technology company had failed to update the common roll.
“When we buy the system, we will ensure that there will be no problems. The issue of the roll update has been a great oversight,” he added.
Deputy chairman Sir Puka Temu said it was unfair in the last elections that some citizens were not allowed to vote while others voted.
Meanwhile, Malaifeope said he did not use the form 11 process which allowed a person to vote because he assumed “it was illegal”.
“We did not use the process because in our meetings, the direction was to follow the Organic Law,” he said.
National Capital District (NCD) election manager Kila Ralai said the form 11 was used in NCD because it was regulated under the election regulations.
Malaifeope said besides citizens, candidates had a special provision where they were allowed to register their names at that certain electorate when their names were not on the roll.
