BURIA Reds have finished on top of pool B after a clinical campaign in the Central Dabaris championship round, wining three of their matches to qualify for a spot in the cup finals playoff today.
Reds defeated Inauaia Roosters 26-4 in the opening round and crashed Hula Parellas (27-7) before concluding their group fixture against Gera Gaivakala (GGK) with a comfortable 28-20 win to advance to top 16 cup knockouts.
Reds coach Morea Daure was certain his men would reach the final round of the finals after a successful pool meeting.
“With the three straights wins I’m convinced that we will reach the finals,” Daure told The National after defeating GGK at Bava Park yesterday.
“I hope they do the same in the course of the finals. We came with a purpose and that’s to win the cup. I think boys are working towards that and we will maintain that.”
Reds proved to be the dominant force in pool B after their spectacular showing since day one of the tournament on Wednesday.
Led by captain and halfback Morea Heni, Reds overcame a tough GGK outfit yesterday in a thriller at the Bava Park.
Heni starred on the park with his slick ball movement and fancy footwork, which saw him score a hattrick to help his side outmuscle GGK by eight points.
“At the moment the boys look slick in attack. Their line speed and ball work has been solid so far,” Daure said.
“Heni has been wonderful in organising the plays.
“I will push the boys to improve on their defence. The boys really need to step on that because finals footy is different.
“You have a strong defence you will win the game. We will work on that in the quarterfinals.”
