IALIBU-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill says because many people are experiencing hardship, it is important to reflect on our Christian faith during Easter.
In his Easter message yesterday, O’Neill said: “Our country and our Christian faith remain a rich constant for all of us despite the ups and downs of mortal life.
“We are reminded at Easter that it is our Christian values that provide us with utmost and constant guidance – our love for our neighbours, protection of our children and family members, finding the good in others and helping those around us – these are all core Christian values that we all agree to live by.
The increasing violence in our community is not Christian and it needs to stop.
“Jealousy, hatred and other weaknesses are overriding our Christian beliefs all too regularly.
“Let us take time this Easter to sit down and think about how we can live a Christian life by solving conflicts and problems with peaceful ways rather than violence.
“This goes for all of us, including myself.
“We can all use this time over Easter to think about how we can improve ourselves, our families, our communities through our dedication to Jesus, who voluntarily laid down his life for us.
“Jesus’ sacrifice was for us. We need to make it count by practising his principles right here, right now in our homes and communities.
“I remember fondly as a child this time in the village.
“My mother, aunts, uncles and other village leaders made sure all the little ones like me had the teachings of our faith to help guide us through life,” O’Neill said.
