Reforms delivering benefits in Justice Dept

THE Magisterial Services and the District Court have developed a long-term transformational reform programme to ensure justice is served faster and easier, says Justice Minister and Attorney-General Davis Steven.
“This programme is already delivering benefits by making access to justice quicker and easier while ensuring fairness,” he said.
Steven said the programme was ambitious, “ensuring that justice is accessible but proportionate”.
“It makes greater use of the technology available in the modern world,” he said.
“It will provide consistent and clear processes, and focuses services to support those who require court services.
“It covers all jurisdictions and touches every aspect of the system, including the performance management of magistrates and administrative staff, public access to forms and processes and will provide a clear charter for court users.”
Steven said the Magisterial Services was responsible for the administration and management of the programme.
The Transforming District Courts Business document was developed in consultation with the Justice sector.
“Despite resource constraints and inadequate allowances, they commit themselves by displaying good leadership to uphold the laws of the land.”
Steven said the programme would be implemented over the next three years.
“Each annual implementation plan will build on the gains made the previous year.”
