Rehab focuses on Bible study

MOST of the rehabilitation programmes in the women’s wing of the Bomana prison are religion-based, officer-in-charge Agnes Kunjil says.
“We have different religious groups coming in and taking them (inmates) through Bible studies, fellowships and normal church programmes every weekend,” she said.
“Most of the women have changed over the years.
“They have no choice but to follow the life of prayers and fellowships.
“We encourage them to fellowships, pray and read Bible every day.”
Kunjil said most of the women were not able to read and write when they arrived but the Bible studies helped them to read, speak and understand Pidgin and English better.
“Other programmes, including baking and sewing, they bake muffins and buns and supply them to the male prison as well,” she said.
“They sew men’s shirts and ladies’ suits.”
