Reinstated city manager aims to improve services

REINSTATED Lae city council manager Roy Kamen says he is ready to work with Lae MP John Rosso to develop the city and improve the services to ratepayers.
He told The National that he was sidelined on Sept 17 last year to allow investigations initiated by newly elected MP Rosso into the council’s affairs.
“Lae is a problem area. I believe the new member has a good initiative to take this city forward,” Kamen said.
“We will work together to move the city forward. As an administration and as our political leaders, we should be on good terms and move this city to a level where we think it should be.
“I am prepared to work with the new Lae MP and the district administration as we have done before.
“We should work side by side to ensure services are delivered to our ratepayers in the city.”
Kamen said he took his suspension to court because he felt that his contract had been breached.
“The normal process of disciplining officers was not followed as per my contract. That is why I took this matter to court,” he said.
The National Court last week granted leave for a judiciary review.
The position was formally handed over to him on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by district development authority chief executive officer Robin Callistus, acting provincial administrator Sheila Harou and deputy administrator Kissu Lucas.
