MOPO Primary School in the Usino local level government area of Usino-Bundi in Madang received K150,000 from the provincial government to support infrastructure development.
Governor Peter Yama, on Friday, handed the cheque to the school’s board of management.
The fund was secured under Yama’s “going rural policy”.
“Many schools in the rural areas of the province have been supported financially through this initiative over the years,” Yama said.
He said the school was one of the remotest schools in the Finisterre range of Usino-Bundi and served three council wards with 4,000 people.
The school, which has 12 teachers, enroll 300 students.
Most of the classrooms were made of bush materials.
A three-in-one permanent classroom was built recently through collective efforts by parents.
Yama said the financial support should go towards building another double classroom to cater for students next year.
However, the school is still in need of more permanent classrooms and teachers’ houses.
Road access is another vital issue for the school.
