Replace Manning: O’Neill

Main Stories

FORMER Prime Minister and Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill has called on the Government to allow Covid-19 Pandemic Controller David Manning to concentrate on addressing law and order issues as the police commissioner.
O’Neill asked Prime Minister James Marape yesterday why the commissioner was appointed the controller when the Covid-19 was a health issue.
“Police Commissioner David Manning should be released from this so that he can do his duties as the commissioner,” O’Neill said.
“Allow the Health secretary Dr Paison Dakulala to be the controller instead.
“I mean do we really need the commissioner of police to be in-charge of the National Control Centre for Covid-19?”
O’Neill urged Marape to address law and order issues as he was dealing with Covid-19.
“Every year we have 400 to 500 people dying from violence, being murdered, yet Covid-19 has killed only four people,” he said.
“Policemen and women are running around in hire cars enforcing the Covid-19 new normal when they should be addressing law and order issues.”
Marape said only one or two lives were lost in a month or two from law and order issues and not 400 or 500 as O’Neill claimed.
But O’Neill told Marape and Parliament that every day there were reports of someone being killed and there were 365 days in a year.
So it should not take a mathematician to work out how many people are killed in a year.
He also told Marape to honour his words, “I’m coming for you” that he made last year after women and children were massacred in Hela.

  • PO is entitled to say his piece of mind…his point is valid ‘now’… not in his previous job as PM.

  • I believe this is the right call at the right time from our former PM. While considering the fact that there won’t be anymore lock down(s) as officially announced by our PMJM, Police Comm should be fully concentrating on the escalating law & order issues in the country.

  • YOU ARE RIGHT SPK.. MANNING SHOULD NOT BE THE COVID CONTROLLER THATS THE HEALTH ISSUES. MANNING SHOULD LOOKING FORWARD TO LAW AND ORDER. PO IS RIGHT.. I SUPPORT PO

  • Manning should be deputy or should go back to PC..so much killing especially in Hela and Enga going on. PC should be reliefed by Health Secretary. PO is a leader and he has right the speak out on the issue of PC wearing two caps.

  • Hon Peter O’Neill’s call is valid. Police Commissioner has a lot to do in his department (especially law and order issues throughout the country) and should be immediately relived of Covid 19 controller’s role. Let the Health Secretary be in charge.

  • I do agree with PO.
PC Manning should should focus more on his designated job description that was delegated to him to govern our Police Force.
Leave the Covid-19 work to the qualified Health workers who can be able to manage it.
“Wearim wanpla cap”, so that you can be efficient and prudent.

  • For now only and for this, I support PO. This is a health issue. Leave to the medical professionals to address the health Pandemic. Law and Order and police brutality are on the rise. The Com. D Manning should be allowed to address these issues with his Minister.

  • This is True. Mr Manning should be responsible for the position that was given to him, therefore He should not be incharged while doing his duty. SOE controller should be given to Dr. Dakulala. Law and Order in our society and country as a whole is very vital now a days. people are taking advantage for the virus and doing all sort of illegal things.

  • PO as a political leader and he is correct as there is so much law and order in the country and PC – Manning should be relieved by Health Secretary as COVID 19 Controller and allow Manning as PC to concentrate in his career duties to organise his policemen/women to combated and put under control law and order in the country.

  • I also agree with PO’s piece of word. Police Minister should come down and do his duty. This is health issue and not the law and order problem.

  • PO is a leader and has 100% right to express his views regarding issues like this which are of national interest.
I support the calls to appoint health professionals to head this covid 19 operation while Mr Manning to deal with Law and Order issues in the country.

  • Most comments above are in line with former PMPO.So it’s over to you PMJM to implement for the good of the country..

  • Agree with all comments made. Manning should concentrate on his job. There is an increase in violent crimes and police brutality is rampant through out in the country.

  • What PO mentioned on both is very true, killing more then what he mentioned and David role is out of control and need to replace immediately. I fully support PO for these.

  • Valid point there, PO is rightly saying. Yet there’s no money to fund the cash flow whilst all the money is pumped into this COVID-19 Operations.
Please let us live with it and get the economy boost.

  • I am 100% agree with PO with his point. We all knows our own lane to work on instead of taking others while you still have your unfinished duty. Law & Order is getting weaker in our country. I appeal to Police Department to start pulling socks up.
