THE qualifying volleyball matches between Team National Capital District and Simbu did not go down well as expected when Simbu officials complained of Team National Capital District fielding one PNG representative player and players competing in the national championships.
The outcome of the match will now depend on the tournament director’s decision.
It is understood Team Simbu had served a written appeal to the tournament director John Paliau.
Team Simbu officials urged the organisers to look into the situation to lift the profile of the Papua New Guinea Games, which is meant for the grassroots men and women.
In other final qualifying play-offs today, Central will wait for the winners of the match between Team Simbu and National Capital District, while the Bougainvillee team will be waiting for the winners of East Sepik and Morobe in the men’s category.
Morobe are looking very dangerous in the competition but will have to be weary of Miria Ume and his troops, who are capable of causing an upset.
Team Central will be taking the court as underdogs but will be expecting tough battle from Team Morobe, who are led by veteran campaigner Philip Nalang.
