MORE research into global epidemics is needed to provide the right data for the Government to manage its impacts on society, an official says.
PNG Science and Technology Secretariat deputy director Dr Kulala Mulung said the country experienced a transition situation in terms of environmental changes such as global warming, the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and economic crisis that affected the people over the last two years.
“There is a need for more research work to be done to provide important information to the secretariat,” he said.
“When the Covid-19 pandemic hit us, we didn’t know how to develop policies that would help to understand the impact of Covid-19, and on how it affected our society and for this we needed to find answers to such situations for future references.”
