AN Australian-based medical research and public health organisation has opened new offices in Kokopo, East New Britain.

The Burnet Institute offices were opened on Monday by acting provincial administrator Edward Lamur and provincial health adviser Nicholas Larme.

The institute has been working with the provincial health office in ENB since 2007.

It was based at the health office building.

Burnet director and chief executive officer Professor Brendan Crabb said the move to new offices reflected the institute’s commitment to research and public health programmes.

It especially focuses on the new “Healthy mothers, healthy babies” initiative.

“The expansion of Burnet’s home management of the malaria programme to new areas and the start of the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies project is an exciting phase for the Institute in PNG,” he said.
