THE annual Trukai Fun Run saw a massive turnout for the event in Port Moresby with city residents making their way along Ela Beach and the APEC Haus yesterday morning.
Despite a change in venue for this year’s Fun Run, city residents were up and about on the roads of Port Moresby as early as 2am to make their way down to Ela Beach for the event.
Grandparents, parents, children and even pets suited up in Fun Run colours.
Organisers and stakeholders turned up in numbers with members of the police, military and Correctional Services beefing up security from the starting point all the way to Konedobu.
The Fun Run got underway with members of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee and Trukai Industries staff among city residents at the starting line.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, who was at the event, thanked the residents for supporting the Fun Run as it was for a worthy cause.
“I thank the organisers and city residents for a massive turnout,” he said.
“This is a great community and fundraising event to support the PNG Olympic Committee to send our athletes to the Pacific Games in Samoa (next month).
“This is also a great showcase of how we can work together, respect each other and be united about the future of building an amazing city.
“We have shown that not only do we have great passion for our national team (Team PNG) but as a city, we can come together as a community with our people and our country in a safe and harmonious way.”
First responders for the Fun Run were present with only three participants hospitalised as a result of muscle strain and dehydration.
