Resurgent NSW topple PNG

THE New South Wales Under-16 boys came from behind to beat the Papua New Guinea juniors, who put on a triumphant performance but fell short to the visitors 16-12 in the Prime Minister’s 13 curtain-raiser game at the National Football Stadium on Saturday.
With a lot of energy in the opening minutes, PNG were the first to score after charging down field.
Earning a repeat set, hooker Nathan Tente was quick in the play the ball area to score near the uprights, making it easy for PNG skipper Amos John to add the extras.
Fifteen minutes late, Tente dived over to score his second try which John failed to convert.  The visitors regrouped and found some rhythm, before five-eighth Nick Tilburg crossed over to score the first try for his team, which he also converted to narrow the scores to 10-6 at halftime.
The second stanza was slow as both sides kept their pace simple. With 23 minutes remaining before fulltime, NSW frontrower Maleke Morris charged his way through the tired PNG defence to score under the uprights to put his side in front for the first time.
Five minutes later, an unmarked winger Cody Ramsey dived in the corner to break the hearts of the PNG juniors in the dying seconds.
