Retail outlet to have solar power system

The recently-opened Tango supermarket and department store at Tokarara in Port Moresby will have an environmentally friendly solar photovoltaic system on its roof.
General manager Colin Spencer said theirs would be the first project to be commissioned by PNG Power Ltd to install their own solar panel.
“There are two other projects that have been done, neither of them have been commissioned,” he said.
“We did all the paperwork so just before Christmas we’ll start installing the panels.
“That would be one-third of electricity to this building.
“All the lighting here are LED which is all low cost.
“It’s going to take a lot of pressure off the local power grid.”
Spencer said the 205kw system was designed and installed by local company Astra Solar Ltd.
