FIVE Indonesians approved by National Pandemic Controller David Manning to cross into Jayapura are now in isolation after testing positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19), PNG Consul-General Geoffrey Wiri says.
“These Indonesians tested positive in Papua province of Indonesia after returning from Wewak in East Sepik,” he said.
Wiri said that a group of Indonesians returned to Jayapura after the Covid-19 protocols and underwent 14 days of quarantine in Wewak.
“Based on their Covid-19 clearance report, Manning approved their passes to cross the PNG-Indonesian border, he said.
“However, when they crossed the border last week, two tested positive for the Covid-19 on Oct 30 by Indonesian health officials.”
Wiri said the pair were separated and taken to a hospital in Jayapura to be kept in isolation. The others tested negative so they were allowed to go home, he said.
Wiri was clarifying a media report that four PNG citizens were in isolation in Jayapura after testing positive for the Covid-19.
Jayapura deputy mayor Rustan Saru told Indonesian media that these PNG citizens were exposed to the Covid-19 and were undergoing treatment in Jayapura City.
“We continue to monitor their health condition,” he said.
“Currently they are being treated by our doctors and nurses so they can recover.”
Saru said the four PNG citizens who were exposed to Covid-19 were discovered while in Jayapura.
“After being tested, they were found positive for Covid-19. So they were admitted to the hospital to receive treatment quickly,” he said.
“We pray that no Jayapura City residents is exposed to the Covid-19. Hopefully these four Papua New Guinea residents will be given healing so they can return to their country.”
