THE Popondetta Rugby League Referees Association received a timely boost from a rice distributing company recently.

Popondetta referees president Kila Sibolo and league counterpart Anko Vamage were grateful for the backing by National Rice Distributors.

The company’s regional office in Popondetta, through sales representative Allan Lee Herove, said they were honoured to be part of the local nines competition and to be promoting the sport among youths.

The nine-team competition, which started last week, ends on the February 25.

The teams are defending champion M4M Bulldogs, who will field two sides, Buna Sanananda, Royals, Sauga Warriors, Hoppl Tigers, Medics, Sangie Raiders and Sirovi Tarangaus.

Vamage said the nines competition was a great way to start the new season.

He reminded clubs that the deadline for all affiliation fees was Friday.
