RIGO Rugby League president Fredie Nanai Silona was declared the new president of the Rigo Central local level government last Thursday.

Silona collected 1,817 votes to beat nearest rival and former radio personality Mairi Mehutu, who had 1,119 votes. He led all the way to victory since counting starting last week.

“This is my first time to contest the LLG elections because of my popularity and public relations in the community and as the choice for the people,” he said.

The 42-year-old sports administrator, of mixed Central (Rigo) and Madang parentage, thanked the people of Rigo Central for electing him.

Silona said his development priorities included infrastructure, economic and social development and delivering efficient education and health services.

“I will work with these sectors to ensure that service is delivered when funding is available,” he said.

He added he would implement the district’s five-year development plan which was drawn up by his late brother, Otto, who had been the district administrator.
