POLICE in the Rigo district of Central have told commuters along the Magi Highway to Hula not to be afraid of criminals when travelling.
Chief Sergeant and police station commander of Rigo Kwaipo Gimana assured the public that rumours regarding the presence of Tommy Baker’s gang members in the Rigo area were just that – rumours.
Baker’s gang caused mayhem in Alotau recently and police are hunting them.
“Our police officers have sanctioned several roadblocks at the main corners of Magi Highway and on the Rigo Coastal areas,” Gimana said.
“We have already given our contacts to the local people to call us as soon as possible if they happened to come across unfamiliar faces.
“So far there are no reports of suspicious persons entering the villages or communities after the rampage in Alotau,” Gimana said.
“But if they did, then we have not been alerted by our informants or we have been played.”
Gimana urged the commuters along the Magi Highway to concentrate on the road and traffic and to drive safely.
