IT is important that the Rigo development authority pursue greater economic participation for its people, says MP Lekwa Gure.
Gure said the district secured K100 million from the Department of Commerce and Industry to set up and assist cooperative societies in the district.
“Currently there is team that is going around, finishing Rigo Coast and last week started in Rigo Central,” Gure said.
“They are dealing with cooperative societies and SME rollout.
“The Rigo DDA was able to secure K100 million funding from the Department of Commerce and Industry and that’s what we are rolling out at the moment.
“Selected wards in the four LLGs – Rigo Central, Rigo Coast, Rigo East and Rigo North – have been selected by their respective presidents to receive some funding.
“Cooperative society will be established in a particular ward as a way of assisting the people to get into small and medium enterprise activities.
“We cannot just rely on the national government or the different levels of government for our development needs.
“When people are actively involved in small-to-medium type activities, it puts money into their pockets so that they can look after their personal needs like school fees and school-related expenses for their children, medical and so on.”
