GEMO were crowned kings of Rigo soccer at Hula while Sivitatana won the title in Rigo inland leg of the Wala Gamu Cup which ran last week coinciding with PNG’s Independence Day celebrations.
Both teams walked away with a K2000 each and will face off in December to decide which sub-district is the champion.
At Hula, Gemo one showed no respect to the home team in the men’s final last Thursday.
Gemo went in to score first off a hand ball penalty right in front of the goal.
Gemo added another goal to Loli Magala for a 2-0 lead.
Hula pulled back a consolation goal before full time through Wari Laka who caught Gemo off guard to end the final 2-1.
In netball, Kaparoko took the K1,500 first prize from Kamali in the women’s major division.
At Sivitatana in Rigo’s inland, the home team defeated Imele 1-0 in the men’s soccer final while in netball it was an all Sivitatana duel when the Sparrows defeated Sivia two 15-13 in the final.
Sponsor Wala Gamu said that this would not be the end of his support and with next year’s prize money increasing to K40,000.
Gamu encouraged the youth to be  self-reliant and improve their lives through sports.
