Rimbu puts hand up for lead role in halves

SP Hunters utility Judah Rimbu says he is ready to wear the No.6 jumper in the upcoming Queensland Hostplus Cup season, if he is given first crack at five-eighth.
With the departure of experienced halves Ase Boas and Charlie Simon at the end of last season, Rimbu said this year would be a new era for the Hunters.
The Rogoma villager, from Kagua, Southern Highlands, said last week that he was confident of leading in the playmaking role.
“The previous halves, Simon and Boas, have set the bar and it is now a new era with them not being in the team anymore,” Rimbu said.
“I am prepared. If the coach wants me to take lead in the playmaking role then I am ready to take it on with confidence.
“I think I am ready to wear the No.6 jersey in the season.”
But the 2020 Digicel Cup rookie of the year said he still needed to work on his passing and kicks after playing 15 games for the Hunters in his debut season in the Hostplus Cup last year.
“I played 15 games, but I didn’t really have enough game time,” Rimbu said.
“I think my weaknesses were my passing and kicking techniques.
“I knew I had to work on those areas in the pre-season and I am happy I did that.
“For this season, I hope to get more game time possibly in a leading role.”
Rimbu said he had learned a lot from veteran Boas when playing alongside him last year.
“There were a lot of things I learnt from him,” he said.
“I got pointers on how to lead the team around the field, game management and even off the field.
“Boas is well respected and I was privileged enough to play with him last year.”
