Road authority concerned with illegal issuing of driver’s licence

NATIONAL Capital District traffic director Joseph Joe says the illegal issuing of drivers’ licences is affecting road safety.
Joe said it was contributing to traffic congestion and accidents because these drivers had not passed the test. “You can know how to drive, but if you fail to observe road-safety rules, then you cause accidents and other problems regarding road safety,” Joe said.
Joe said an example was drivers who moved slowly on the inner lanes, and others who wanted to overtake on the left lane.
“The slow-moving vehicle must always use the left lane, and have the inner lane cleared for fast-moving vehicles,” Joe said.
“Those inner lanes are made in a way that when you overtake a car, you always pull back to the left allowing the inner lane to be clear at all times for drivers to overtake.”
He said the rule also applied to roads that had three lanes each way.
Joe said the illegal issuing of licenses also contributed to drivers making dangerous stops on road corners, curves and on busy streets.
“These are cases where you see drivers stopping in areas where they are not supposed to and causing traffic congestion.”
