Road nearing completion, says Parkop

NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says a two-lane road from Taurama’s Tuna Bay to Taurama Beach is expected to be completed soon after months of delayed construction work.
“There was a delay with the design of the road to include water pipes from Eda Ranu,” he said.
Parkop, who has been concentrating on infrastructure and building roads in the city recently, said work had begun on the road. “I was informed by the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and Hebou Construction Ltd that the issue on water pipes had been settled,” he said.
In 2018, during the ground-breaking ceremony, Parkop said the road would cost about K20 million.
He said the road was initially designed for four lanes.
Parkop said the construction of the proposed four-lane road was delayed for a while due to funding difficulties. “The road had been planned for a long time,” he said.
However, Parkop said NCDC would look at adding two more lanes to the road later.
Last year, the two-lane road was launched with construction level said to be at stage three.
Parkop said the road would be built purposely for conservation for the Motu-Koitabu people.
