ROAD links are important because they connect people around the country, Imbonggu MP Pila Niningi says.
Niningi, who is Minister for Inter-Government Relations, said this on May 16 after giving K200,000 to the locals at Ori in his electorate for helping to build a 2.5km road that connects to Mendi and Mt Hagen in Western Highlands.
He said basic services such as health and education could now be accessible through the road link.
He said road access was a necessity for the people through which other services and developments could be accessed.
Niningi thanked the people of Ori for taking the initiative.
“This is an example which other communities should follow, to do what they can do with whatever they have instead of waiting on others to come and assist them,” he said.
He said the people were helping themselves and showing the provincial administration that they wanted to be in control of their own development and growth.
Niningi said with the new road in place, the people of Ori would now be able to access other services and see development and change taking place in their community.
