POLICE have cleared a roadblock set up by locals last Thursday along the Okuk Highway following the death of a teacher in a hit-and-run incident.
Chimbu police commander Supt Epenes Nili said the situation in Migendi was under control.
“Blocking of a public road is illegal and an offence,” he said.
The recently-graduated male primary school teacher died instantly.
His body was found in a nearby drain by villagers who set up the roadblock.
Later in the afternoon, a related roadblock was set up at Chuave.
Police responded quickly by defusing the situation.

  • The relatives of the deceased teacher should report the matter to the police to deal swiftly and accordingly instead of take law into their own hands by blocking the road and disturbing the travelling public which is illegal and an offence as stated by the chimbu police commander.
There should be more awareness carried out to the general public especially people living along the corridors of highlands highway to educate them so that such accidents happen in the future they will approach the right authorities to deal with their cases.

  • These Chimbus have a tendency to block the highway every time there’s a mishap on the road or based on some other events that relate to them. They must know that they are lucky to have the main road running through their province. There are people out there who are dreaming for a road!
