THE people of Pinambe, Elti and Kupi tribes living at the border of Dei district and Hagen Central, Western Highlands, are now connected by road.

In fact, two roads funded by the Pinambe Depi Saks Foundation for Development for K200,000 have been completed.

The money was part of the K900,000 given to the foundation by local MP William Duma last year.

The two feeder roads are the 5km road from Gaupato Kopuka and the 3km Gaupa-Waghi River Road.

The road construction began last November and was completed last month.

Foundation chairman Jack Rombok said on Sunday they used local labour from his Pinambe tribe to build the roads.

He said the people in the past experienced problems transporting coffee bags, fresh vegetables and garden produce to the markets.

In addition, trade stores owners no longer have to carry their goods on their shoulders back to their villages.

He said the foundation was going to build a community hall for K300,000 for the people and churches to use. Construction will start this month.
