PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill is expected to officially launch the State’s hosting of the upcoming 2nd Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Trade and Investment road show in Port Moresby on Thursday.

Two main components of the event will include an investment seminar followed by three days of roadshow next week.

This year’s theme is “Taking the MSG Trade Agreement to the Next Level” and aimed at consolidating and deepening the MSG trade agreement through effective and productive application of the MSG trade agreement among member countries.

Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru said the private sector and cabinet ministers supporting the event would be invited to the launching at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Port Moresby, on Thursday.

A new website for the event is expected to be launched simultaneously.

Maru said: “The launching will be an opportunity to solicit and encourage the private sector to support in sponsoring this event under the concept of public private partnership”.

Maru said private sector businesses had been offered sponsorship packages including naming rights offer.

“Given the potential markets of the MSG member countries with so many opportunities in the area of investment in all sectors, tourism promotion, imports and exports of both goods and services; this event should encourage PNG companies and small and medium enterprises’ (SME’s) to participate in a way that will maximise their opportunity for exposure.”

Maru said the State had allocated K2.2 million to host the roadshow.
