A BUSINESS house in Porgera, Enga province, has lost store goods worth thousands of kina in a holdup on the Highlands Highway leading to Southern Highlands province on Wednesday.
The Robin Hood-style robbery took place at Keltiga village, outside Mt Hagen, at around 1pm when the truck belonging to the Paena Investment company, loaded with goods was heading towards Porgera.
Witnesses said about six men armed with high powered guns stopped the vehicle, ordered the driver and his crew out and drove the truck away, handing out its content to villages they passed before emptying and dumping the truck at Kelowagi village.
The stolen goods included rice, biscuits and cigarette accessories worth more than K3,000.
Mt Hagen police Chief Supt Peter Roari confirmed the robbery.
Supt Roari said yesterday that his office had received the report but could not confirm the total cost of goods stolen.
He said investigations were continuing.
Supt Roari said it was a daring daylight robbery which he condemned and urged people to protect public properties.
