BANK South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) chief executive officer Robin Fleming says any staff breaking the bank’s code of conduct will be disciplined accordingly and criminally pursued.
This follows complaints raised by customers that they had been asked to pay commissions to loans officers to have their loan applications processed and approved.
Fleming said BSP operated on a code of conduct that describes the values and minimum standards for ethical business conduct expected of all employees.
“These values and standards govern employee interactions with our clients, competitors, business partners, Government and regulatory authorities, and shareholders, as well as with each other,” Fleming told The National.
“They also form the cornerstone of our policies, which provide detailed guidance on compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
“Any staff deemed to be on contravention of this code are disciplined accordingly and criminally pursued.
“BSP maintains a strong control framework, guarding against such behaviours. However, if any customer have any specific complaints, they should email [email protected] and BSP will review each complaint accordingly and take action against any staff asking for or accepting commissions for providing bank services to customers.,” he added.
According to a social media post, a customer had applied for a K50,000 loan from the bank which was approved only to be later asked for K5,000 as commission.
“When the customer did not get back with a favourable response within an hour, he was told that his loan application will be revoked. It is understood the matter has been reported to the responsible authorities.”
