Rogue officers

I REFER to Section 19 and 20 of the Police Act – Iron out rogue officers and express serious concern regarding the ill-motivated tactics used by police officers in arresting or causing to arrest suspected offenders or citizen for the wrong reason.
My good Police Commissioner Gari Baki, as insignificant as I may be, the mere fact that I am addressing this message directly to you reflects how detested and loathed I am which I believe the rest of PNG shares the same towards the conduct of police officers going on wild goose chase stopping vehicles at traffic lights and shopping malls like opportunist to score a couple of bucks without following the proper process and procedures in place such as conducting proper road blocks.
I was baffled and traumatised by an event on March 30 around 9.30pm by the criminal act of a group of rogue police officers from the Hohola station headed by a constable who chased my vehicle like a thief to stop me and search my vehicle without any reasonable cause which would warrant his or their suspicion of me actually committing an offence.
The said group of officers ordered me to drive my vehicle to the Hohola police station and threatened to ground my vehicle and throw me in the Boroko holding cell. The constable laid false charges which I knew was not defined under the Motor Traffic Act and indirectly tried to draw K1000 from me.
In fear of my safety I offered them K200 which they rejected so I had to add another K50 and gave them K250.
After I gave the constable the said amount I was allowed to take my vehicle and go, after almost three hours of being held at the station.
I almost broke down in tears, not because of the money I gave or being held up for no reason at the station, rather because I realised that the very institution that is meant to protect me indirectly robbed me at a police station.
Commissioner Baki, the very office that you occupy is established by the very pillar (Constitution) of this great nation which I would go to war and die in order to defend and protect it. Please I urge you to restore some confidence in our Police force.
