ROOKIE teams Ferno, Diyai, Gigilawokuva, Salu amd Kemagu started their Eastern Papua Carnival (EPC) campaigns on a positive note at the Bisini Soccer Ground in Port Moresby over the weekend.
Reverend Bernard Siai kicked off the tournament, in which 32 men’s sides and 11 women’s teams are competing.
In his address, Siai commended the carnival founders for establishing a community-oriented initiative.
Siai officiated the carnival with the theme “God speed”.
“It is not about who wins, you are all winners when unity is our goal,” he said.
“This theme refers to action in Gods timing, and being accountable and orderly.
“Unity can be achieved if God is present and given His rightful place.”
Siai also commended EPC president Joyce Grant and her executives for ensuring that the tournament took place.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s fixture will see Latama go up against Labose Warriors and Ebony Woods, and Gabutu One should beat Avis Keri Two. Diyai One and Avis Keri One should provide the match of the day.
Sunday’s fixtures will see LSC One take on Pom Luba and Ferno One face
Solgen. Ebony Woods must come out hard against Yalas One or face being silenced by the young Misima outfit.
