LAE MP-elect Lae John Rosso has promised to take Lae back to its glory days.
Rosso spoke after his election victory at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium yesterday. He beat bigger names in Sir Nagora Bogan and incumbent Loujaya Kouza.
The independent candidate polled 8767 votes (on the 47th exclusion, absolute majority – 7287), ahead of PNG National Party candidate Sir Nagora (5804), with Kouza (THE party) on 951.
Lae businessman Rosso said Lae was a beautiful place where he grew up so he wanted to restore that lost pride and image of the country’s garden city.
“Lae is our place, that’s where we grew so my aim is to make Lae the best place to live in again,” Rosso said.
“I’m not going to change. I’m not going to wear a suit and escape to Port Moresby.I will be here.
“I will be the same and my attitude will be the same.
“Whatever decision I make the interest of the people of Lae, will come first. I want a city commission.
I want Lae to be like NCD.
“I don’t want Lae to be called a pothole city.
“Right now party politics and horse-trading are going on. But I am not a lon-lon (mentally ill) man. Those who jump on the plane and go somewhere are lon-lon.
“I am an independent, but I will work closely with Sam Basil and Ross Seymour.
“Like I said, we are brothers and we will work together.
“I stood (in the election) because I wanted to change Lae.
No one will fix problems in Lae except boys from Lae. I will work closely with everyone.
“Lae is home so we must all work together to fix our city.
“It’s a big job but we can do it together.”
