THE Bulolo-Wau Rotary Club in Morobe donated assistive devices to persons with disabilities in Mumeng, to mark World Disability Day last weekend.
The Rotary club donated five walking sticks, three crutches, and a wheel chair to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mumeng district disability programme.
The assistive devices will help persons with disabilities in Mumeng to access services easily.
Club secretary Brian Paiferi said one did not have to be rich to give or share with those in need.
“If you have the heart to give, you will give. I give but I don’t want anything in return,” Paiferi said.
The Bulolo-Wau Rotary Club was chartered in 1982 in the small town of Bulolo, with only expatriates as members it has been assisting communities in Menyamya and Bulolo districts since then.
In 1994, the club started recruiting nationals. Most of the charted members have left and a few died living only two surviving members in 2013.
In 2014, it, inducted 15 new members and this year they inducted two more and increasing the membership to 17.
Paiferi joined the club in 1996 and is the longest serving member.
The club donated books, stationery, furniture, white goods, medicine, sleeping beds, desks and water tanks to schools and the Bulolo hospital.
“We have donated most of the medical equipment to Bulolo hospital because of its central location in the district where people from Buang, Mumeng, Watut, Garaina, Wau, and even Menyamya come to receive health services there,” Paiferi said.
The donations were apart from Rotary International-funded programmes of Rotary Against Malaria and immunisation of school children aged between nine and 15 years old.
