ROYALS shut out Butterflies 72-0 in round five of Port Moresby Rugby Football League to sit atop the women’s ladder at the Santos National Football Stadium last weekend.
The player of the match, captain Vero Waula and sibling Freda each scored four tries.
Vero opened the scoring with a try on her first carry after the kick-off.
Butterflies showed some courage to stay in the contest, but Royals were too classy as they continued to score tries.
The game looked easy for Royals as they dominated in all areas of the game and went into halftime with a 30-0 lead.
The struggling Butterflies had several opportunities to score, but Royals’ defence was tough to crack.
Royals forwards Cecilia Mark, Nelly Andrew, Penina Spencer Leonie Mark and Vero were hard to contain as they muscled their way through Butterflies’ porous defence.
Royals continued their dominance as hooker Esther Arawi controlled the traffic to help her side bag 42 more points in the second half.
Royals coach Sammy Jackson commended Vero for her leadership in the convincing victory.
“I was impressed with their dominant performance,” he said.
“I knew we were going to win, but didn’t expect such a scoreline.
“Credit to Vero for leading the players to a commanding win.”
