THE Royals grabbed their first win of the Port Moresby Rugby Football League’s (POMRFL) 2020 season following a 20-6 thumping of West on Sunday.
Week six of A-grade competition saw a tough weekend of football with four of the five matches ending in draws.
The lone win of the round went to the Royals with skipper Junior Yambe and his men collecting the first two points of the season against a young Souths outfit.
Meanwhile, Dobo Warriors and Defence opened the round with 6-6 draw in Friday’s matchup while Souths managed to hold off Brothers in an 8-8 stalemate.
Division leaders Kone Tigers were kept to a 6-6 score line against the Butterflies on Saturday with the Tigers still holding on as competition leaders for after week six.
The main match of the round saw Magani and Kone Storm finish with 0-0 draw with the Storm containing a pacey Magani side.
Magani, under skipper and former Central Dabaris centre Jack Oii, got the upper hand in the first half however ball handling errors would deny them point scoring opportunities throughout.
Magani halves Conroy Junior and Junior Belo created space and chances for their backs but were kept out thanks to some great scrambling defence by the Storm in particular centre Jarred Oipa. Meanwhile, the Kone Tigers and Paga Panthers sit on top of the A-grade division with eleven points each while the Butterflies and Dobo Warriors are third and fourth respectively
