Rugby league mourns loss of former Kumul

THE rugby league fraternity, including the sport’s national governing body, is mourning the loss of former Papua New Guinea Kumuls centre Garia Kora.
Kora, aged 66, from Hanuabada and Porebada, Central, died at his home in the National Capital District on Wednesday morning after a short illness.
PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) chairman Sandis Tsaka said in a statement yesterday that Kora was Kumul No.22 and played his only Test in the historic 37-6 win over France on May 29, 1977, in Port Moresby.
“Kora debuted in that game captained by John Wagambie alongside fellow Hanuabadan great (late) Dikana Boge and the likes of Peter Pius, Paul Tore, Joe Tomerop, Linus Geni, (late) Jack Metta (late), Kaiva Kako,” he said.
“He was also a member of the Hanubada Hawks in the Port Moresby Rugby League competition and Southern Zone in the 1970s. On behalf of PNGRFL and the rugby league fraternity throughout the country, we extend our sincere condolences to his children Maraga, Kabua, Keruma, Rohi, Kaia and their families and14 grandchildren, on the passing of their dad and grandfather.”
A funeral service will be held at the Lakani Toi Memorial Church at Hanuabada at 4pm tomorrow.
