WANTOAT Health Centre in Morobe’s Markham received 21 clinical mattresses valued at K4,000 last week.
The mattresses were donated by Leron-Wantoat local level government (LLG) Women’s Association president Gengkewe Neritha Ganzik last week.
Community health worker Gatak Inopa said the mattresses would help their patients to sleep well in wards.
“We still need another 20 mattresses as we have about 40 beds,” she said.
Inopa said the last donation of mattresses was in 2012 by a German organisation.
“All those mattresses have worn out and we got rid of them,” she said.
“Our patients have been sleeping on bare sick beds in the past few years.
“These mattresses will give comfort to the sick, injured and women in labour.”
Ganzik said: “I saw patients laying on bare plywood on sickbeds without good mattress.
“I took it upon myself to help my community.”
